Basketball World Cup, India loses 103-74 against Lebanon in the Asian Qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. The Indian basketball team’s next game will be against Jordan in February of next year. On Sunday, the Indian men’s basketball team was defeated 103-74 by Lebanon in the second round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers at the Pierre Gemayel Arena in Beirut.
Muin Bek Hafeez was India’s star performer in the game, scoring 16 points. Palpreet Singh Brar was the only other Indian basketball player to score in double figures, with 12 points. Ali Haidar of Lebanon was the contest’s best scorer, with 27 points.
India had a strong start to the game, with Prashant Singh Rawat and Muin Bek Hafeez both nailing three-pointers to put the visitors up 10-6 early on. However, Lebanon, ranked 43rd in the FIBA global rankings, surged into the game and controlled the play against world No. 85 India. The hosts had a 27-20 lead at the conclusion of the opening quarter thanks to Haider and Jad Khalil’s deadly combination in the attacking third of the court, which they extended to 49-36 at halftime.
Lebanon dominated the last two quarters as well, winning the match by 29 points. The Indian basketball team has yet to win a game in the FIBA World Cup 2023 qualifiers, having lost all four games in the first round and the same number of games in the second round. After eight games, India has dropped to the bottom of Group E’s points standings.
Lebanon, on the other hand, leads the group with seven victories and one defeat in eight games. On February 24, 2023, India will play Jordan in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers. In the 18 editions of the FIBA Basketball World Cup, India has never qualified for the main draw.
